Weed Roaches: What Is A Roach?

Weed Roaches: What Is A Roach?

A weed roach can be the end of any blunt, spliff, joint, or other rolled cannabis product.

An equivalent would be the butt of a cigarette. The size of a roach depends on personal preference and how much of the rolled product is smoked.

A roach usually refers to the very end of a joint, spliff, or blunt. A roach can be anywhere from half of a joint to a tiny end of a joint. When half a joint is leftover, it is usually called a clip.

“I never smoke roaches because you can’t get a good hit.”

“To get the most out of my blunt, I always smoke it down the roach.”

When it comes to roaches, it boils down to personal preference. Some people even save their roaches to roll a roach blunt or joint when they run out of weed.

‘Roach’ or ‘clip’ joints can get you pretty stoned because the end of a joint or blunt has a lot of resin that gets you super high.

Weed Roaches: What Is A Roach?

The first written mention of a roach is from a 1938 article in The New Yorker. The author attended a party where people were smoking cannabis, and someone referred to a partially smoked joint as a roach.

This term may have Spanish origins, possibly even from the Mexican song “La Cucaracha,” which means ‘the cockroach’ in English.

The song is actually about soldiers smoking cannabis during the Mexican Revolution.

For the most part, the first part of a joint, blunt or spliff, is usually the best. The flower is still fresh, and the airflow is at its peak. This means big and flavorful hits.

However, by the end of the joint, the people smoking may already be sufficiently stoned. Or, in some cases, people don’t like the resinous nature of roaches and the leftover saliva from sharing a joint.

Some people don’t mind this at all, as we mentioned earlier.

Should I Save My Roaches?

Saving roaches is truly a personal preference. Some people like to save them as a safety net if they run out of weed; at least they have some roaches to smoke on or roll into a joint.

Furthermore, by the end of the joint or blunt, the constant heat from the ember cause the oils and plant matter to thicken, making the smoke harsher as the joint progresses.

There is such thing as a roach clip, which helps to smoke the joint or blunt down to the very end without burning your fingers.

A roach clip is a clothespin-like device that holds the joint or blunt tightly, so your fingers don’t get burnt.

Roach clips are ideal for those roach killas out there.
