Step-by-step instructions on how to make a DIY gravity bong or geeb. There are three methods to make a geeb or homemade gravity bong: with socket, no socket, and glass.
DIY Gravity Bong: Gravity Bongs 101
You might be looking for a different way to smoke your premium, high-CBD cannabis flower. Why not make your own geeb? Also known as a bucket or gravity bong. A gravity bong can give you a powerful hit of CBD, THC, or Delta-8 THC.
However, it’s not recommended for first-time smokers. The smoke created in these kinds of bongs is intense to say the least.
Furthermore, geebs are fast and easy to construct and most of the materials that you will need to make one can be found around your home. Once you have mastered how to make a gravity bong from scratch, you will never need to run out of paper again.
This article will demonstrate three ways to create a DIY gravity bong or geeb.
DIY Gravity Bong: How to make a geeb without a socket
How you choose to construct your geeb will largely depend on what you have lying around your house.
This is the most common method of making a DIY gravity-bong. Largely because it is quite easy to source the materials. You’ll need:
- A bucket or large plastic bottle (in a pinch, you can use the sink!)
- A plastic bottle
- A poke tool
- Small piece of aluminum foil
- Sharp knife
- High-CBD Flower of your choice
Step 1 – DIY Gravity Bong – Cut your smaller bottle
Use a knife to cut the bottom of your smaller bottle and dispose of it. Please note that the less you remove, the greater the bong hit.
Step 2 – DIY Gravity Bong – Make a slit in the bottle cap
The hole should be large so that your finger can be poked through it.
Step 3 – DIY Gravity Bong – Form the bowl
Use aluminum foil to shape around your fingertip. Then, push the flat side of the aluminum foil into the bottle cap. In addition, smoothen the edges around the cap. Additionally, the deeper you make the bowl, the more CBD flower it can hold.
If you are making a glass bottle gravity bong, or if you don’t have a bottle cap, you can shape the bowl at the top of the bottle. Note that without the bottle cap, it may be trickier to remove the bottle cap, especially when it’s hot!
Step 4 – Poke holes in the foil
Use your poker to poke holes in the foil. For good ventilation, you will need about five holes. However, be careful not to tear the foil as you poke.
Step 5 – DIY Gravity Bong – Get your water ready
The next step is to prepare your water. If you are using a sink or bucket, fill it with water. You can also use a larger bottle by removing the top and filling the bottom with water.
Step 6 – Load your bowl
Your smokable flower should be placed in your newly constructed bowl and put to the side.
Step 7: DIY Gravity Bong – Submerge the bottle in water
Place the smaller bottle (bottom down) in the prepared water until just the cap is visible.
Step 8 – Replace the cap
After the bottle is submerged, you can then screw the flower-filled bowl back onto the bottle.
Step 9 – Light it up and lift
Light the flower and gently lift the bottle from the water. All of the smoke will be pulled out by the suction created inside the bottle. However, don’t lift the bottle out of the water entirely, otherwise, you’ll lose the smoke you just created.
Step 10: DIY Gravity Bong – Decap it and inhale
The next step is to remove the cap and inhale. It is best to take it slowly if you are a first-timer. Furthermore, gravity bongs can cause even the most experienced smokers to cough.
DIY Gravity Bong: How to make a geeb using a socket
Now that you know how you can make a geeb with no socket, let’s look at what you could do if you have one. To make this bong, you will need:
- Bucket or large plastic bottle
- Plastic bottle
- A socket ½” – ⅝” in size
- Metal gauze
- Masking tape
- Sharp knife
- Favorite high-CBD strain
In addition, the only thing that makes a geeb different is the way it’s constructed. This means you’ll need to replace the above steps two and four with the next steps. Here’s how to make your DIY gravity bong using a socket:
Step 2: Determine the socket size
To find the perfect socket size, place them on the neck of the bottle to check which one fits best.
Step 3: Wrap in tape
Use your masking tape to wrap the socket’s bottom several times. This will additionally create a tighter fit between the socket & bottle mouth and make an airtight seal.
Step 4 – Add gauze
Lastly, your metal gauze should be placed into the socket
DIY Gravity Bong: How to make a geeb using a glass container
You can make a geeb with a glass bottle if you are concerned about plastic. Instead of cutting the bottom to draw smoke through a plastic bottle, as in step 1, you will need to use a glass cutter for this process.
Moreover, this can be more difficult.
You can start with step 2 if you have a glass cutter. To learn more about cutting glass bottles, check out this YouTube video on many different and creative ways to cut through glass.
Because glass bottle geebs are more durable they are easier to clean. Thus, they can be reused many times. Be sure to sand the edges of the bottle well so that you don’t accidentally cut yourself!
